thanks seth

the first time my long lost friend seth woods put a wilco album in the cd player, i boldly proclaimed, "i'm not ready for that dude." well a solid 5 years and 3 albums later, i tell you seth, wilco could very well be my favorite band of all time. i have survived coldplay, rose and fell with u2, embraced radiohead, and even kicked the shins (ok, the last one was a stretch). but wilco...they are a part of me.
the funny thing about it is that seth prolly hates the latest release from wilco. it is way too accessible and clean. but that is the beauty of the album that my hirsute-austinite-hipster-even-though-you-would-die-if-someone-ever-called-you-that-to-your-face friend is likely missing . the songs have a lack of complexity and noise that the band has buried themselves in, over the last couple of albums (although it is hard to argue with yhf). all you get is pure songwriting from the greatest american band of our generation.
it is quite possible that not everyone reading this post is "ready for wilco ." but trust me, when you "get it" you'll wonder how you could ever go back to life before. if you think you are ready rush out and pick up easily my favorite album of 2007, sky blue sky.

I don't know who this band is, Jerms, but have you heard of Zion? Oh yeah, I saw Mikey B at Robbie's concert last night (he's like a rock star or somethin' now) and Mikey (aka bozo) told me that Larry Woods was staying with him for a month? I think we need to call a band practice! Where are you? Why are you so far away!?

hipster? dude, i am not a hipster. hipsters shower way more than i do. and wear tight-fitting clothes. and go dancing.

but anyway, i remember driving around houston with you in your truck listening to "summer teeth." and then i remember a little later getting dinner with you out in clear lake and you not being able to get enough of "shot in the arm."

glad to have helped you with this one. you're right. i hated this record when i first heard it. i can do without noise and complexity in the music, just wish the lyrics had more depth to them. i like a few songs now, but they totally left the best of the new songs completely off of the record. it's called "one true vine" and it's amazing. the melody, lyrics. just awesome. if you haven't heard this song, email me and i will pass it along. you need it.

give my love to candice and the kids. come see austin and me. love ya.

Smooth J,

What it do? Long time no see...

Jessica found your family's blog last week so I wanted to drop you a note to say hey. Congrats on your kids - you picked some cool names.

Actually saw Wilco in concert at Austin City Limits a couple years ago. They're even better live than on CD.

Latest news with us...we have a daughter. Her name is Emerson and she's 10 months old. Write me back at rowes@hotmail.com if you get a chance.

Later.

Scott
